About the artist
I have been making art with drawing and painting since early age as a pupil of my mother’s father, Jan Küper, who was a very talented painter and celebrated furniture designer since the late twenties of last century. As he was indeed a renowned art teacher at the academy of Malines during decades, I took the full academic curriculum through personal lessons from him.

He showed me the way to become an artist, learned me the techniques he used, introduced me to the art movements of his age – ranging from Fauvism to Expressionism and last but not least De Stijl, which also influenced his furniture design, excelling in balance, simplicity and elegance.
He himself produced a vast oeuvre of oil paintings, drawings and ink washes, which however were rarely presented to the public, remaining until this day in private (family) collections.
My passion for art lead me to create oil and acrylic paintings, aquarelles, pastels and drawings over decades since my twenties, ranging from landscapes to still lifes. This considerable art work has hitherto found its way in private collections.

Time has come to open my art to the world. Recent health issues also made me more aware of the time factor in our lives, and this led me further to take this step, with indeed encouraging results. Recently, my art work has been presented on various international exhibitions in Brussels and Antwerp, met with keen interest and has been introduced to private collections abroad.
Over the last year, the use of pastel has become quite important, and this medium is used fairly often in my recent work.

I also further concentrated on other art forms like ink drawing, and digital art amongst others. This art work can also be seen on social media, i.e. Instagram, @hanskrisjanknol.

Indeed, the latter art form, ink and digital drawing, became prominent since the start of the Corona pandemic: I decided to create a pen drawing of flowers each day the Corona pandemic lasted, and this has now grown into a collection of no less than more than 550 flower drawings. Aquarelle and digital means in colouring these drawings is also applied.
